Product Description

GEG…ES vs. GEG…ES-2RS: What Is the Difference?

Understanding the Difference Between Open and Double-Sealed Spherical Plain Bearings

GEG…ES and GEG…ES-2RS are radial spherical plain bearings designed for applications involving heavy loads, oscillating movements and angular misalignment. Both series feature a robust steel-on-steel sliding design and are suitable for demanding industrial applications.

The main difference is that GEG…ES-2RS is equipped with two additional seals, one on each side of the bearing, providing better protection against dust and external contaminants.

1. GEG…ES: Open Spherical Plain Bearings

GEG…ES is an open-type radial spherical plain bearing without additional seals on either side.

Its open design allows easy access to the bearing's lubrication areas. The bearing features lubrication grooves and holes in both rings to facilitate relubrication during maintenance.

GEG…ES is suitable for applications where regular lubrication is available and the operating environment does not require additional sealing protection.

Typical applications include industrial machinery, articulated joints, construction equipment and other mechanical systems requiring heavy-duty bearing support.

2. GEG…ES-2RS: Double-Sealed Spherical Plain Bearings

GEG…ES-2RS has the same basic bearing design as GEG…ES, but includes two additional seals fitted on both sides of the bearing.

These seals help prevent dust, dirt and other external contaminants from entering the bearing's sliding contact area. This protection can help maintain cleaner sliding surfaces and reduce the risk of contamination-related wear.

GEG…ES-2RS is particularly suitable for applications exposed to dusty or dirty environments, where additional protection of the sliding surfaces is desirable.

Typical applications include construction machinery, agricultural equipment, outdoor industrial machinery and other articulated mechanisms operating in environments where dust and contaminants may be present.

3. Key Differences at a Glance

Feature GEG…ES GEG…ES-2RS
Bearing design Open type Double-sealed type
Additional seals No Two, one on each side
Dust protection No additional side seals Improved protection against dust and external contaminants
Lubrication Lubrication grooves and holes Seals help protect the sliding area; maintenance requirements depend on the specific design
Recommended environment Relatively clean or accessible operating conditions Dusty or contaminated environments
Main advantage Open design for accessible lubrication and maintenance Additional protection against external contamination

4. Which Type Should You Choose?

Choose GEG…ES if the application operates in a relatively clean environment and regular lubrication and maintenance can be carried out.

Choose GEG…ES-2RS if the bearing is exposed to dust, dirt or other external contaminants and additional sealing protection is required.

The most suitable option depends on the actual operating environment, lubrication method, load conditions and maintenance requirements.
